Sun City Remodeling Permits

Confirm jurisdiction, documents, plan review, inspections and property restrictions before construction begins.

You don’t need permits to start the conversation.

A licensed remodeling contractor can help identify which permits your project requires and may handle applications and inspection coordination as part of your agreement. Before hiring, confirm who will manage permits and whether the related fees are included. Required permits must be in place before the work they cover begins.

The official resources below are available if you’d like to learn more about local requirements.

Start with the Correct Jurisdiction

Sun City is an unincorporated Maricopa County community. Do not use the City of Surprise or City of Maricopa permit process based on proximity or a similar name. Confirm your address jurisdiction with the county.

Official Resources

Before Applying

  • Describe structural, plumbing, electrical or mechanical changes.
  • Gather the address, parcel number, owner information and required plans.
  • Ask which application, documents and reviews apply to your scope.
  • Confirm applicable association or deed restrictions; one approval does not replace the other.
  • Document who pulls the permit, schedules inspections and supplies final records.

Aging in Place Planning

When changing a shower, doorway or layout, confirm dimensions and applicable requirements before buying materials. This guide helps organize questions; the permitting authority determines the requirements for your project.
